Pioneering Sustainability: The Samsung Galaxy S22 Series

Those who love the ground-breaking Samsung Galaxy S22 Series will also love that it has the planet at
the heart of its design. With Samsung completely committed to purposeful innovation that supports a
healthier planet, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Series was created to foster this core value. With a string of
innovations from its longer-lasting batteries 1 , powerful processing power to its prograde cameras, it is
bound to capture the imagination of those seeking out Samsung’s latest technological marvel. It however
achieves this by factoring its impact of the Earth.

As Samsung’s most eco-conscious device ever, the Galaxy S22 Series pioneers mobile technology while
supporting the planet. Plastic pollution poses serious threats to our environment, and discarded fishing
nets are especially harmful to marine life and our oceans. By collaborating with leading organisations,
Samsung helps recover discarded fishing nets 2  and transforms them into a high-performance material for
its smartphones. This material – used in the Galaxy S22 Series’ component, key bracket – contains 20%
recycled ocean-bound plastic 3  from discarded fishing nets. The Galaxy S22 Series also incorporates post-
consumer recycled material in its speaker module, as well as the inner parts of the power and volume
keys. In addition to ocean-bound plastics, we use 100% recycled paper for the Galaxy S22’s packaging
and include a protective film made from recycled plastic. Every smartphone case is also designed with
UL-certified, eco-conscious materials 4  – such as recycled post-consumer plastics or bio-based substances.
These purposeful innovations are the latest example of Samsung’s commitment to doing more with less
as part of Galaxy for the Planet. By 2025, Samsung will also incorporate recycled material in all its
products, eliminating plastics in packaging, and achieving zero standby power consumption for all
smartphone chargers. Samsung also aims to divert all waste from landfills at its manufacturing facilities
across the globe. The Galaxy S22 Series is a crucial step in delivering on this ambition, and Samsung

understands that the work will not end here but continue with each purposeful innovation that brings
Samsung one more step closer to creating a more prosperous planet for all.

Samsung’s trade-in programme 5 also plays a role in managing e-waste by giving those wanting its latest
devices added incentive to get rid of older or unused devices. Samsung has made the process of trade-in
simple and rewarding. You can trade in an eligible older device and save on your upgrade to the Galaxy
S22 Series. You have until 30 June 2022 to receive a discount of R5000 when you trade in for a Galaxy
