Uber Eats Launches ‘Live’ — Now Delivering Direct to Your Stadium Seat

Uber Eats is changing the way South Africans experience live entertainment with the launch of Uber Eats Live, a new feature that lets fans order food and drinks straight from their seat at major venues. Piloted at SunBet Arena in Pretoria during the recent Basketball Africa League (BAL), the feature brings together convenience, technology, and a deep understanding of what today’s fans want: seamless experiences without missing a moment of the action.

Fans attending the BAL were among the first in the country to test Uber Eats Live. By simply opening the Uber Eats app, selecting the venue, and browsing from a curated menu of on-site vendors, spectators could order and enjoy stadium favourites – all delivered directly to their seat. It’s live entertainment, upgraded.

“We’re proud to introduce a product that meets South Africans exactly where they are – at the heart of culture, community, and celebration,” says Cassie Jaganyi, Head of Communications, Uber Sub-Saharan Africa. “Uber Eats Live is about enhancing moments, not interrupting them. It’s innovation that moves with the crowd, not against it.”

This launch builds on the strong foundation Uber Eats has established in South Africa. According to Uber’s 2023 Economic Impact Report, the platform supported over 40,000 earners and contributed R17 billion to the local economy in just one year. By creating tech-enabled opportunities like Uber Eats Live, the platform continues to unlock new ways to drive growth and deliver value for consumers, merchants, and delivery people alike.

As South Africa’s entertainment landscape evolves, Uber Eats is committed to evolving with it, bringing smart, user-centric solutions to life that enhance every kind of experience, from music festivals and sports matches to local markets and pop-up events. Following the success of the SunBet Arena pilot, Uber Eats plans to roll out the feature at more venues across the country.

And when the lights go down? The service continues. With After Dark, Uber Eats now offers late-night delivery until midnight, giving fans the freedom to keep the celebration going at home with their favourite meals, snacks, or sweet treats, long after the final buzzer.

Uber Eats Live is more than a new feature – it’s a signal of intent. It’s about reimagining what’s possible when technology, hospitality, and entertainment converge. It’s about putting South Africans at the centre of the moment, whether they’re in the front row or on the couch.

From Pretoria to the rest of the country, Uber Eats Live is setting a new standard for live experiences – one seat at a time.
