Two Amigos, One Windy Adventure
This was not your typical hike unless your “typical” involves cold winds, empty beds, and two women laughing at their own madness. The date was set, but when the day arrived it was just me and Jen. Our partners in crime bailed (probably cuddled up in their warm duvets), but we weren’t about to miss a brand-new trail. Beds are nice, sure, but mountains are better.
So, there we were, two rebels against the weather, giggling at our own craziness. Jen picked me up, we looked at each other, and burst out laughing because honestly, who chooses wind and rain over blankets and Netflix? Us. That’s who.
The wind was winding (yes, that’s a verb now), and the higher we climbed, the more it tried to blow us back down. But instead of complaining, we turned it into a party of two. We talked, we laughed, we posed for pictures like influencers with zero followers. And somewhere between the gusts, we realized hikes like this remind you who you are resilient, ridiculous, and slightly obsessed with nature.
At the reception, we met Action. And let me tell you, the man lives up to his name. Passionate, detailed, and determined to make sure we didn’t get lost. He explained the route, and Jen and I nodded like good students… knowing full well we’d forget everything because we’d be too busy talking and snapping selfies. Luckily, the trail had numbered footprints. Every time we spotted one, we screamed like kids finding Easter eggs. “We’re not lost!” became our victory chant.

The trail was tranquil, quieter than the usual Haarties hikes we’ve done. Just over 7km, that we did not feel. We were wowed by the beauty. It felt fresh, fabtastic, and instantly shot to the top of my NorthWest list. Then came the Springboks a whole herd, just casually grazing like extras in our adventure movie. For R120, this mini short left was worth every cent. Better than being in bed, no shade to our fellow Amigos.
We sat at a viewpoint, soaking in the peace, marvelling at nature’s beauty, and chatting about everything under the sun (or rather, under the clouds). The trail itself was moderate, with a few tricky spots, but nothing we couldn’t conquer with laughter and stubbornness.
I can’t wait to go back on a sunny day though honestly; the wind and rain made this hike unforgettable. Sometimes the best adventures aren’t the ones with perfect weather, but the ones where you laugh so hard you forget the cold.
Till next time, my Fabtastic People.
