Tehillah Community Centre celebrates donation of essential washing appliances, empowering staff to allocate scarce resources to feeding programs instead

Hisense SA and The Dis-Chem Foundation handed over several top-loader washing machines and tumble dryers to the Tehillah Holistic Centre in Elsies River last week, as part of Hisense SA’s ongoing “Loads of Love” corporate social investment initiative.

The donation included several 18kg Top Loader Washing Machines and advanced tumble dryers, which feature essential Time Delay and Child Lock functions, perfectly suited for the centers needs.

The appliances will aim to support the Centre’s operations, by providing them with the laundry infrastructure they need, so that their existing resources may be redirected towards funding their early childhood development (ECD) center, healthcare services, rehab center and feeding programmes – all of which impact hundreds of vulnerable children and families daily.

The Dis-Chem Foundation dutifully covered the full installation costs of the donated units on the day, ensuring immediate and uninterrupted use by the Centre’s staff and volunteers.

By providing the Centre with reliable, high-capacity washing machines and tumble dryers, there is also a significant decrease in the time, cost, and manual labour previously required for daily laundry needs. This operational relief means that staff and volunteers can redirect both time and financial resources toward critical services like the Centre’s feeding programmes.

WitTehillahhours spent hand-washing items and less need to outsource laundry, more of the Centre’s budget can go toward sourcing fresh ingredients, expanding kitchen capacity, and feeding more children and families in need. Clean, efficient laundry infrastructure thus plays an indirect but vital role in strengthening the Centre’s overall impact, especially in nutrition.

“The Tehillah Holistic Centre is doing absolutely incredible work in Elsies River, and we are truly grateful to the Humanitarian Empowerment Fund for introducing us to them last year,” said Jacqueline Kahlberg, spokesperson for The Dis-Chem Foundation. “We are deeply passionate about nutrition, especially in early childhood development. The Centre’s ECD and feeding schemes resonate powerfully with our purpose, and we look forward to continuing our support of their work, well into the future.”

“We’re incredibly proud to continue our partnership with The Dis-Chem Foundation in bringing practical, life-improving technology to organisations like Tehillah,” said Alex Chen, Brand Marketing Manager of Hisense SA. “Over the next few weeks, we’ll be donating even more washing machines and tumble dryers to other community-driven organisations and non-profit beneficiaries of The Dis-Chem Foundation across the country – helping more centres like this one deliver on their mission of care.”

Hisense – Loads of Love

To mark the special occasion, Alex Chen and Jacqueline Kahlberg personally loaded and started the Centre’s very first cycle in one of the donated top-loader washing machines.

To date, the Hisense Loads of Love initiative has donated over 300 essential washing appliances to communities and organisations in need in the Western Cape and Gauteng, and will continue to expand to Kwa-Zulu Natal, Limpopo, and other provinces in coming months.
