Ackermans South Africa’s leading value retailer recently brought together two of South Africa’s most beloved vocal talents and performers, Zolani Mahola (formerly of Freshlyground) and the soulful Lloyiso, for an exceptional acapella rendition of “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” They were joined by a collective of rising local stars: a vibrant, talented ensemble that infused the performance with warmth, vibrancy and rich harmony, creating a moment that was nothing short of magical.
The group’s infectious energy lit up the room, reflecting the spirit of South African possibility and reminding us why we continue to dream. Among them was an Ackermans customer, Naledi Xulu, a young 16-year-old girl whose journey from singing in her hometown of Empangeni to sharing the stage with her idols began with the retailer’s Sing With Ackermans competition, which invited local talent to share their voices with the brand.
South Africans took to social media to share their thoughts on the song – which touched and uplifted Mzansi nationwide. “Can we get a short EP please, the country currently can do with this type of warmth,” one viewer wrote. “Guys, this is too beautiful,” added another. A third commented, “I got goosies watching and listening to this so beautiful .”
“This wasn’t just an opportunity for one aspiring singer,” says Bronwyn Pretorius, CMO at Ackermans. “It was a moment of joy and pride for everyone in the room. It’s a reminder that talent lives everywhere, that dreams do come true, and that in South Africa, a smile really does go a long way.”
The cast, all dressed in pieces from the latest Winter Collection from Ackermans, included:
Zolani Mahola, Lloyiso Gijana, Likhey Booi, Mila Smith, Shaza Greeff, Moegammat Damon, Suda Khabana, Jordan Cridland, Grace Bagula, Joshua van der Merwe and Naledi Xulu.
