Mark “MarkTheShark” Moonsamy, a seasoned gamer from Durban, has secured his place among the world’s greatest by winning the Red Bull Kumite South Africa Qualifier. This victory grants him the honour of representing South Africa at the prestigious Red Bull Kumite 2025 tournament in Paris, France, on April 5-6, 2025.
Mark, 31, began his competitive gaming journey a decade ago with Mortal Kombat and has since transitioned to Street Fighter 6. His dedication and skill culminated in a stellar performance at Comic Con Cape Town on April 28, 2024, where he emerged victorious in the South African qualifier.
Red Bull Kumite 2025 marks the tournament’s 10th anniversary and returns to its roots in Paris. The event will feature 16 top-tier players, including eight legends of the fighting game community and eight emerging talents. The competition will unfold in a single-elimination format, with matches conducted in a ‘first to five’ setting.
Mark expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming challenge, stating, “Competing on such a grand stage is a dream come true. I almost never attend the qualifiers last year, but thanks to my sponsors via my team at Illusion Gaming, I made it and made the South African qualifier amongst 100 people. It’s a humbling experience. I’m eager to test my skills against some of the best players in the world and this experience is priceless. The ten-thousand-dollar prize money wouldn’t be too bad either.”
