Flight Centre Successfully Concludes Inaugural Sponsorship of Primedia Broadcasting’s Brain of 702 and Brain of CapeTalk

Flight Centre, South Africa’s leading travel retailer, has successfully wrapped up its first year sponsoring the prestigious Brain of 702 and Brain of CapeTalk quiz competition, which concluded on 3 March 2025 with researcher Daniel Sher claiming the coveted title in Johannesburg, and Adil Mohamed grabbing the win in Cape Town.

The month-long knowledge challenge, a valued fixture on South African radio and hosted on both 702 and CapeTalk’s flagship shows, represents a strategic partnership for Flight Centre as it celebrates 30 years of operating in South Africa. The competition aligns perfectly with the company’s ethos of inspiring discovery and broadening horizons.

Antoinette Turner, General Manager, Flight Centre South Africa, said: “Our inaugural sponsorship of Brain of 702 and Brain of CapeTalk has exceeded all expectations. The synergy between travel and knowledge exploration created the perfect platform to engage with our audience in a fun, meaningful way that extends beyond traditional marketing.”

“At Flight Centre, we believe that both travel and learning transform lives by opening minds to new perspectives. This partnership allowed us to showcase this shared value while connecting with thousands of South Africans through their passion for knowledge,” Turner added.

The competition format featured daily head-to-head challenges broadcast on 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa and 702 Drive with John Perlman – and on sister station CapeTalk with Lester Kiewit and John Maytham. Contestants competed for daily prizes of R1,500, with weekly champions receiving R10,000 plus a R5,000 Flight Centre travel voucher. The four weekly winners advanced to the grand finale, where they competed for the ultimate prize package.

Flight Centre raised the competition’s stakes considerably, offering the champion a substantial R30,000 cash prize plus a luxurious seven-night all-inclusive holiday at the five-star LUX* Belle Mare resort in Mauritius, courtesy of TLC Vacations and Flight Centre.

The competition attracted thousands of entries, with participants ranging from university students to professionals and retirees, all demonstrating South Africa’s diversity of knowledge and passion for learning.

As the sponsorship concludes its first year, Flight Centre has already begun discussions about future involvement with the beloved quiz show, looking to build on the successful format while introducing fresh elements to engage even more South Africans in 2026.
