The Gr 2 De Grendel Cape Merchants over 1200m has attracted a hot field of 20 runners. The race which put Flobayou on the map in the 90’s for winning three times and the traditional starting point for the likes of Pocket Power and Kommetdieding is the fourth meeting of the 2024/25 Cape Racing Summer Festival of Racing. The key to this Gr 2 sprint is to find a horse who is well handicapped. Coming into the race with a good preparation and with a generous weight is paramount to winning. Meu Capitano could not get a penalty for his last run as per the conditions of the race. He ran close-up to Ziyasha, now rated 119. Meu Capitano is rated 104 so he ran far above his handicap. The jockeys who have ridden him hold him in high regard. Chase Maujean is carded to take the ride for Piet Steyn.Heaps of respect is given to King Of The Gauls, Future Variety and last year’s winner, Cosmic Highway.
