Vuma Joins kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival, Connecting South Africans to the Stories That Shape Our Culture

As the festival celebrates its 14th year, Vuma joins as a proud sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to connecting South Africans not only to the internet, but to the stories that shape our culture.

Vuma has partnered with the kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival for the first time as a proud sponsor. The festival, now in its 14th edition, has become one of South Africa’s most important platforms for Afrikaans film and television, offering a stage for both established filmmakers and emerging voices.

Taking place from 19 to 22 August 2026 in Camps Bay, Cape Town, the Silwerskerm Film Festival will showcase a diverse programme of independent features, documentaries, short films and exclusive television premieres. Over the years, the festival has grown into a launchpad for new talent and a celebration of the country’s rich cultural storytelling.

For Vuma, the sponsorship reflects a broader purpose: enabling access that drives opportunity. The same fibre connectivity that helps South Africans learn, work and build businesses also empowers creators to collaborate, produce and share their work with audiences far beyond their own communities.

“The stories that shape our country deserve to be seen and heard,” says Simon Butler, Chief Commercial Officer at Vuma. “We are proud to partner with the kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival. Great stories deserve great connections, and through reliable, high-speed connectivity we help ensure that South African storytellers can share their work with audiences locally and globally.”

The partnership also aligns with Vuma’s commitment to digital inclusion. Beyond expanding fibre access nationwide, the company has connected more than 1,000 schools to free high-speed internet, supports youth development initiatives, and continues to improve digital access in underserved communities. By investing in the creative industries, Vuma is helping to ensure that South Africans not only consume stories but also have the tools to create and distribute them.

This year’s festival promises four days of outstanding cinema and conversation, bringing together filmmakers, industry leaders and audiences who believe in the power of South African storytelling. For Vuma, it is an opportunity to stand behind the people who tell those stories and to help ensure they reach audiences wherever they are.
