A new digital solution designed to simplify and enhance the student experience has been unveiled with the official launch of Student Konnect, an all-in-one student Super App developed through a strategic partnership between Unisa Enterprise, Omnex Global – a global technology innovation company – and African Bank.
The platform was officially launched on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at Coastal KZN TVET College, the largest TVET college in KwaZulu-Natal. The launch event attracted large numbers of students who attended to register on the platform and engage with its features.
The introduction of Student Konnect marks a significant step toward building a more connected, accessible, and digitally enabled higher education ecosystem in South Africa by bringing essential student services, opportunities, and support systems into a single, integrated digital platform.
The CEO of Unisa Enterprise – the commercial arm of the University of South Africa – Mr Lesetsa Matshekga, said: “Student Konnect has been developed as a comprehensive digital platform that brings together essential student services, opportunities and support systems in a single, easy-to-use application. What makes this platform unique is that it supports students and the broader higher education ecosystem at multiple levels. Whether you have just matriculated and are exploring institutions to enrol in, you are a student looking for a tutor, or a lecturer seeking to connect more effectively with your students, Student Konnect is designed with you in mind”
“We have consolidating multiple tools and services into this one platform. Our aim is to help students better navigate their academic journeys while also preparing them for the world of work.”
The CEO of Omnex Global, HRH Jamal Mathibe, described the platform as a “virtual mall” designed to provide students with access to essential services in one convenient digital space.
“We have partnered with a company called Matador Digital, which works with major retailers to offer savings and rewards programmes that help empower students to better sustain themselves during their studies,” said Mathibe.
He further explained that the app also features a virtual learning portal that enables lecturers to create digital classrooms and connect directly with their students.
“In addition, the platform provides access to study materials that enhance students’ connectivity to knowledge and help strengthen their critical thinking skills,” he added.
Mathibe also highlighted that the platform integrates an AI-powered tool that supports language translation, making it easier for students from different linguistic backgrounds to engage with learning content and better understand their coursework.
The collaboration between Unisa Enterprise, Omnex Global, and African Bank brings together expertise in education, technology, and financial services, creating a platform that reflects a shared commitment to empowering students and strengthening South Africa’s higher education ecosystem. The launch of Student Konnect aligns with Unisa Enterprise’s mission to collaborate and leverage technology to create a more accessible, inclusive and responsive student support environment.
Mr Mthokozisi Ndlovu, Student Support Officer at Coastal KZN TVET College, said the institution immediately recognised the value of the platform.
“When this app was presented to us, we immediately recognised its potential as a platform that will simplify our students’ lives, allowing them to focus on what matters most – their studies, personal development and spending quality time with family and friends because it reduces the need to navigate multiple platforms.”
Mrs Sizakele Mbatha, Assistant Director: Student Support Services at Coastal KZN TVET College, encouraged students to register on the platform.
“We encourage our students to register so that we can minimise the number of communication tools currently in use, as this app will serve as a centralised platform for our college. We also call on other institutions to register, as the platform will benefit them by enabling the formation of communities with fellow students from different institutions.”
The platform also reflects the increasing role of digital technology in shaping the future of education. As universities continue to evolve in response to changing student needs and technological advancements, solutions such as Student Konnect demonstrate how partnerships between education institutions and industry can create innovative tools that benefit students at scale.
