Capitec has expanded its Smart ID service by introducing self-service terminals (SSTs) to over 30 branches, making it easier for more South Africans to apply for their Smart ID cards while doing their everyday banking.
Launched in partnership with the Department of Home Affairs, the service allows clients to complete their Smart ID application quickly and conveniently at participating Capitec branches. Using the in-branch self-service terminals, clients can submit their details digitally through a secure, paperless process that takes just five minutes to complete.
The service was launched on Monday, 9 March, in seven branches and scaled throughout the week.
Capitec’s newly developed proprietary digital integration, built on Amazon Web Services, connects dedicated in-branch SSTs directly to DHA systems. This allows Capitec to scale the service quickly with strong stability and lower operational costs. The terminals are centrally managed, so new features and critical security updates can be deployed rapidly.
With 30 branches now online, more South Africans will be able to conveniently begin their Smart ID applications while visiting their local Capitec branch, helping bring government services closer to the communities they serve.
