Young people with disabilities in South Africa face substantial challenges, including social isolation and marginalisation. A staggering 71% of people with disabilities are unemployed, highlighting the need for inclusive structures that support equal access to opportunities. The National Youth Policy 2020-2030 aims to address these disparities by promoting the representation and inclusion of youth with disabilities in development opportunities.
“It is therefore essential we create platforms that are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of people with disabilities, and it is on this premise that we call on young people and civil society to support the amplification of our efforts and to join the A! diversity campaign”, Nomthandazo Shabangu adds.
