Conlog, Africa’s largest smart metering solutions provider, today announced a strategic partnership with Plentify, an innovative home energy management company, at Enlit Africa 2025. This landmark collaboration promises to accelerate the rollout of intelligent energy management solutions to more than 50 million households across the continent.
According to Kailas Nair, Chief Growth Officer at Plentify, “Utilities are under increasing financial pressure as their highest-paying customers turn to rooftop solar to avoid grid instability and rising tariffs. This reduces utilities’ daytime revenue while increasing demand during costly peak periods. As a result, utilities are forced to impose double-digit annual tariff hikes, placing even more strain on households and businesses, causing further defection.”
With Conlog’s established presence in over 58 countries and over 17 million smart meters deployed globally, this partnership positions Plentify’s flagship products, HotBot and SolarBot, to scale rapidly through Conlog’s trusted distribution and utility networks. This means that millions of South African homeowners could soon save more, have more control and backup power from the infrastructure already in their homes.
According to Logan Moodley, CEO of Conlog, “Our strategic vision with this project is fundamentally about evolving towards being more consumer-centric in the adoption of smart metering. We aim to understand and address the impact of energy access on consumers. The advent of digital technologies has created a strategic alignment between what Plentify offers from a technology perspective and our long-standing industry challenges. Traditionally, municipalities and distribution authorities focused on metering activities. However, with this synergy, we are introducing a more dynamic and data-driven energy ecosystem that includes the consumer as a principal player.”
“At Plentify, we’re focused on making homes part of the energy solution, not just passive consumers. By combining our smart technology with Conlog’s trusted metering platform, we’re creating new value for utilities, municipalities, homeowners and property developers. Together, we’re offering a complete Home Energy Management System that goes beyond basic load control, enabling smarter, more flexible energy management across Africa’s energy ecosystem,” adds Jon Kornik, CEO of Plentify.
Fuelling public and private sector growth
Conlog’s strong track record in the public sector, including its role as a vendor on the RT29 Transversal contract, positions the partnership to accelerate smart energy adoption in municipalities across South Africa. The RT29 contract streamlines procurement for smart electricity and water meters, significantly reducing public procurement cycles. This creates immediate opportunities for municipalities to deploy Plentify’s solutions at scale.
In the private sector, Conlog’s extensive reach into large residential complexes, estates, and property developers offers a ready-made platform to introduce bundled smart energy solutions to homeowners and communities. The partnership also opens doors to international markets, with Conlog’s footprint extending across the continent.
Moodley adds that, “We are also exploring new routes to market, leveraging both public and private sector opportunities. As a panelist on the RT29 Transversal contract, we see the potential to integrate this technology into existing channels, providing intelligent load management solutions. Our goal is to minimise consumer frustration, ensuring that even during load management activities, consumers maintain access to essential services without inconvenience. This delicate balance is what our collaboration with Plentify aims to achieve.”
A future with fully integrated smart energy solutions
The long-term vision is to natively integrate Plentify’s AI platform with Conlog’s smart meter technology, delivering a holistic load management solution that serves the entire energy value chain, from individual households to municipalities and utilities.
Kailas concludes that, “This full platform integration will provide homeowners with a home energy management solution that slashes their electricity bills without sacrificing comfort. At the same time, utilities will gain access to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) powered by everyday home appliances, unlocking new flexibility, reducing grid pressure, and accelerating a Just Energy Transition for all.”
Official launch at Enlit Africa 2025
The partnership was officially announced at a launch event held at the Conlog stand at Enlit Africa 2025 in Cape Town on 20 May 2025, attended by energy industry leaders, municipal representatives, and the media.
