Optimi College today announced that registrations for the 2026 Amended Senior Certificate (ASC), commonly known as “Adult Matric”, are open. Prospective students are invited to register and prepare to sit for the ASC examinations scheduled for May/June next year.
The ASC programme offers a valuable opportunity for adults (21 years of age and older) seeking to complete their matriculation, thereby enhancing their employment prospects and career opportunities. Optimi College’s comprehensive curriculum, delivered through flexible distance and digital learning platforms, enables learners to balance their studies with personal and professional commitments.
“Our ASC programme is designed to provide adults with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully complete their matriculation,” said Eloise Nolte, MD at Optimi College. “We believe that education is a lifelong pursuit, and our flexible learning options ensure that every student has the chance to succeed.”
For the ASC, students select six subjects to complete, two of which must be official South African languages. Interestingly enough, according to Optimi College’s student enrolment data, Life Sciences, Business Studies, and Mathematics are the most popular subject choices. Life Sciences, in particular, stands out because it opens doors for further studies in tertiary education, especially in medical and health-related fields.
An important aspect of the ASC is that final exam results count for 100% of the qualification. Unlike the traditional National Senior Certificate (NSC), ASC students are not required to complete ongoing assessments or accumulate year marks.
Eloise Nolte, Managing Director at Optimi College, clarifies, “With the ASC, students do not need to submit projects, assignments, or participate in subject-based assessments throughout the year. Their final qualification depends entirely on their exam performance, simplifying the qualification process for adult learners.”
To help students succeed, Optimi College offers comprehensive exam preparation resources. Students receive textbooks and study materials, assignments, and memoranda, enabling them to test their knowledge and readiness independently. Optimi College also provides past exam papers, assisting students in building confidence and ensuring thorough preparation before registering for their exams.
Nolte further notes, “Our approach ensures that students are fully prepared when they sit down to write their ASC exams. By focusing entirely on exam preparation, we give adult learners the confidence and support they need to successfully achieve their matric.”
Results from the ASC exams, marked by the Department of Basic Education, are typically released in August – just two months after the exam session concludes.
Registration is now open, and interested candidates are encouraged to secure their place as soon as possible. For more information on the ASC programme, registration process, and course details, please visit https://optimicollege.co.za/courses/adult-matric-amended-senior-certificate/.
