Highschool Warcry Rocks Mzansi in Celebration of Uber Eats

In a feel-good video moment that has captured the hearts of South Africans, Hoërskool Tygerberg put on a spectacular Uber Eats-themed flash performance during the annual MTBS interschools athletics competition on 8 February.

MTBS is the largest interschool competition in South Africa, featuring athletics, cheerleading, and flashes between competing schools: D.F. Malan High School, Tygerberg High School, Bellville High School, and Stellenberg High School. This year, Tygerberg High School went all out to celebrate Uber Eats, creatively spelling out “Uber Eats” with their blazers and showcasing popular merchant logos as well as a moving delivery bike.

The viral moment has further solidified Uber Eats’ popularity among young South Africans. In 2024, Uber Eats was once again voted The Coolest Food Delivery App at the Sunday Times GenNext Awards, maintaining its position as the top choice for food delivery.

Uber Eats Gives Back to Hoërskool Tygerberg

As a token of appreciation for the school’s enthusiastic support, Uber Eats has gifted all 1,200 pupils and their teachers at Hoërskool Tygerberg with promo codes for a free meal—amounting to a total value of R140,000, allowing them to enjoy their favourite meal on their favourite platform.

Cassie Jaganyi, Head of Communications for Uber, shared her excitement about the school’s tribute. “Seeing the passion and creativity from Hoërskool Tygerberg was truly special. We’re honored to be a part of such a memorable moment and thrilled that Uber Eats plays a role in the lives of so many young South Africans. This is our way of saying thank you!”

Jesse Harmse, Educator at Hoërskool Tygerberg, expressed gratitude for the recognition. “MTBS is about school spirit, creativity, and unity, and our learners were excited to bring Uber Eats into this year’s flash. The response from Uber Eats has been incredible, and our students are beyond excited to receive this special surprise.”
