Entrepreneurs Josiah (CEO) and Millicent Musuwo (COO) of Musuwo Logistics keep pushing boundaries in the competitive South African logistics landscape. Determined to make a mark in communities as part of their values and most importantly giving back, the trailblazing power couple has partnered with Vaal University of Technology to offer in-service training to business analyst(s) and software development students for a period of six months.
“Having studied Information Technology at VUT, giving back to where my story began has always been part of the plan for the business. At Musuwo, we don’t only operate as a business but our values are also in giving back and what better way to give than affording students an opportunity to gain experience in the work field with an aim to curb lack of skillset in a country with a high rate of unemployment. Impacting youth is definitely the heartbeat of our company, says Millicent Musuwo.
The fast growing SMME which started out as Josiah’s idea in 2021 to rent out motorbikes to drivers working for fast food delivery apps such as MrD and Uber Eats now employs twelve employees. Starting on a small scale with renting out their first bike did not deter the couple’s dream of expanding and making an impact in the market place. After two months of trading formally as Musuwo Logistics, the business took a turn to introduce and enhance its technology by building their first ever delivery platform, Pick’tUp app.
“My 10-year history in Information Technology in the Corporate space came in handy in the expansion of our business because of my experience in developing Technology products such as mobile applications. I am also excited to share that we are soon launching new features on our Pick’tUp app and will also be partnering with a few retailers which you can shop from on our platform,” shares Millicent.
As a couple running a family business, what has assisted the Musuwo’s professionally, is by providing a complete picture of how they plan to grow the company by implementing quarterly strategies. “This quarter, our focus is to provide in-service training to VUT Business Analyst and Software Development students for a period of six months. The training will assist the selected students to obtain workplace experience ahead of their graduation as well as grant them an opportunity to kickstart their career journeys. Our training currently has no stipend however we are calling on organisations or individuals who might have a similar vision or call-to-action like ours, to assist financially in order to support these top four performing students create a better tomorrow for themselves,” shares Josiah Musuwo.
“When you partner with us, either as a business or individual, you are guaranteed to be met with an experience of reliability, innovation, customer-centricity, excellence, teamwork and integrity. At this critical juncture of empowering South African communities for a brighter tomorrow, we also encourage consumers to try out our new features on the Pick’tUp app. When more users engage the app, the more work it creates for our rental bike drivers who depend on their work to make a living, which in turn curbs unemployment in communities,” expanded Josiah Musuwo.
Musuwo Logistics offers same day delivery in Gauteng province, with a plan to expand to other provinces in 2025. With its head office located in Bryanston, north of Johannesburg, the company’s Pick’tUp app offers its services in several parts of Gauteng such as Johannesburg North [Fourways, Sandton, Randburg, Northriding and Bryanston] as well as other areas such as Midrand, Centurion and Daveyton, east of Johannesburg.
“We pride ourselves in providing transparent pricing models with no hidden fees, and ensure that our clients understand the cost structure. Part of our short-term goals is to become the most reliable delivery company through our app, Pick’tUp, where our customers don’t need to run errands themselves. In terms of our long-term goals, we aim to build lasting relationships with business customers by completely taking care of their logistics needs while they focus on building their businesses,’’ concluded the Musuwo’s.
