Solar Power Africa 2025: Driving Africa’s Renewable Energy Transition

Messe Frankfurt South Africa is pleased to announce the return of the Solar Power Africa , now in its fourth year. Taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 4 – 6 March 2025, this premier event continues to serve as a vital platform for advancing Africa’s renewable energy sector.

This year, Solar Power Africa will be co-locating with the Africa Energy Indaba, marking a significant milestone in uniting key stakeholders, industry leaders, and innovators to drive Africa’s energy transition. This collaboration solidifies the event’s position as one of the largest and most influential energy gatherings on the continent.

The theme for the 2025 conference is Powering Africa’s Renewable Transition: Advancing Solar Innovation, Sustainable Investments, and Energy Storage Solutions.

With 10 plenary sessions and three keynote addresses, the conference will facilitate critical discussions and knowledge-sharing on the latest advancements in solar technology, policy frameworks, and investment opportunities. The exhibition will run for the full three days, allowing attendees to explore the latest products, services, and solutions driving the renewable energy sector forward.

Host City Endorsement

The City of Cape Town, a proud supporter and host city of Solar Power Africa, continues to play a leading role in renewable energy deployment. Councillor Zimkhitha Sulelo, Energy Portfolio Committee Chair, highlighted the City’s commitment to the renewable energy transition:

“As a municipality, the City is pushing the boundaries in the energy space and aims to be a leader in renewable energy deployment through its own projects and supporting private sector investments. Apart from our internal energy efficiency programmes, as well as the exciting start of our solar PV own-build projects, the first plant being constructed in Atlantis, the City has also moved mountains to enhance the customer experience when wanting to go solar.

More than 5,000 customers have submitted their solar-PV applications via the City’s e-Services portal. To ensure that the process to submit applications is simpler and faster, the City developed an online platform to make authorisation easier. All our efforts in this space go toward supporting and enabling embedded generation.

Furthermore, the Integrated Development Plan makes it clear that energy security for economic growth is a key priority area and this is supported by the Mayoral Priority Programme on Energy.

As a host city, the City is excited to partner with this conference. The aims of the Solar Power Africa event align with the City’s work and the objectives of clean, secure energy for all, with a focus on renewable energy uptake.

For the 2025 event, the focus is on the theme ‘Powering Africa’s Renewable Transition: Advancing Solar Innovation, Sustainable Investments and Energy Storage.’ The conference is addressing key focus areas of the City, including clean, secure energy for all, with an emphasis on renewable energy uptake; building smarter grids; battery energy storage; electric vehicles; energy and the circular economy; and decentralised solar solutions for electrification.”

Africa is experiencing steady economic growth, development, and transformation, with renewable energy emerging as a key driver of sustainable progress. The rapid expansion of the renewable energy market presents significant opportunities for investors, developers, and operators to further advance the sector.

Solar Power Africa in partnership with RE+ events, sponsored by Sungrow and endorsed by the South African Energy Storage Association(SAESA), Green Cape, Circular Energy and the Africa Solar Industry Association(AFSIA) remains dedicated to fostering an environment for the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and expertise in solar power and renewable energy development across the continent.
