Safair Operations, which trades in the domestic passenger aviation market as FlySafair, is proud to announce the appointment of Blacky Komani as the new Chairman of the Board. Mr. Komani, a seasoned professional with over three decades of experience in the tourism industry, steps into this role with a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of leadership. He has served on the board of Safair Operations as an independent director since 2019.
Formerly the Deputy Group CEO of Tourvest Holdings, Mr. Komani has served in various high-capacity roles within the industry, including the prestigious position of Chairman of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA). His academic credentials are equally impressive, holding a B Admin (Hons) from the University of Fort Hare and a Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) from George Washington University.
Mr. Dave Andrews, the outgoing Chairman, expressed his utmost confidence in Mr. Komani’s appointment, “Blacky’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for FlySafair as we continue to solidify our standing as South Africa’s only low-cost airline. His exceptional track record, deep-rooted understanding of the tourism landscape, and strategic vision are exactly what Safair needs as we chart our path forward.”
Mr. Komani’s career is a testament to his dedication and strategic insight. He joined Tourvest Holdings in 2006 and quickly rose through the ranks, demonstrating his acumen in roles ranging from Sales and Marketing Director for American Express Foreign Exchange, now Travelex, to Group Chief Executive Officer of 1time Holdings.
“We are honoured that Blacky has agreed to take up this role. His passion for this industry knows no bounds, and we know that he shares our vision of building an airline that makes South Africans proud, especially as we start to expand operations beyond the domestic borders,” says Elmar Conradie.
FlySafair, under the guidance of Mr. Komani, is set to continue its trajectory of growth and innovation, providing affordable and reliable service to customers across South Africa.
