Renault South Africa steps up educational support for children

JOHANNESBURG, 01 February 2023: Renault South Africa, in partnership with the Motus Imperial Trust, has donated a fully equipped mini library to the Ntethelelo Foundation, providing learners participating in its programmes with a safe and conducive place to study after school hours. Ntethelelo, which is based in Johannesburg, is a woman-run foundation that aims to end domestic violence, eliminate gender inequalities, and promote the wellbeing of women and girls.

“Ntethelelo’s values are closely aligned to our own,” said Sithabile Maphumulo, Renault SA’s Marketing Director, speaking at the handover of the library on Thursday, 26 January. “It’s an organisation based on the principles of self-love, self-respect and building communities, and we’re proud to have been supporting its work since 2019. One of the main objectives of our CSI programmes is to bring about social change through education and that’s exactly what’s being done here.”

Founded in 2017, the Foundation uses applied drama techniques and various art methodologies to elicit dialogue about violence against women and girls and to promote meaningful social change. These forms of engagement are rooted in the Theatre of the Oppressed framework famously developed by the Brazilian theatre practitioner, Augusto Boal, in the 1970s. Boal was an early advocate of interactive theatre practice and developed the Theatre of the Oppressed concept based on direct interaction between audiences and performers.

“The techniques we use are intended to break the cycle of gender inequality, oppression and violence,” says Thokozani Ndaba, Ntethelelo’s Founder and Executive Director. “They’re powerful tools that are specifically designed to dismantle toxic masculinity, which is particularly prevalent in impoverished communities.”

Renault partnered with Motus Imperial Trust to build and equip the library as the Trust has provided 64 library facilities since its inception in 2003 and was able to bring invaluable skills, knowledge and experience to the project. The new library, like many of Ntethelelo’s facilities, has been constructed using shipping containers, which offer a grassroots solution to long-standing infrastructure challenges. It has been designed to meet the needs of multiple age groups, including learners in the foundation phase (from Grade R to Grade 3) and learners in the intermediate phase (from Grade 4 to Grade 6).

It is stocked with 1 500 books, all of which have been specially selected to support these curriculum phases and have been covered in plastic film to protect them. They are alphabetically arranged and displayed on well-placed shelves. The facility is also equipped with two laptops and high-speed internet access, offering access to online resources as well.

The surroundings are secure and well-maintained too. On Mandela Day in 2019 and 2022, Renault partnered with Ntethelelo to organise a clean-up of the Foundation’s surroundings and the community beyond. The company also provided funding and equipment to help improve its facilities and to support day-to-day operations.

“It’s such a bright and welcoming space,” says Thokozani Ndaba, “and we’re delighted that the participants in our programmes have access to a secure and well-resourced learning facility like this. It’s an environment that supports study and it provides a place for them to work through their homework systematically and without disturbance.”

“We’re very proud to be involved in initiatives like these,” says Maphumulo. “Not only do they offer safe spaces and access to learning resources for girl children, they help them to build resilience, make positive choices, support one another and strengthen their communities. They’re right at the beginning of the virtuous cycle that education facilitates.”

The top destinations for South Africans in 2023, according to travel experts

Wanderlust is back in a big way, and South African travellers are planning their 2023 getaways. According to travel industry experts, a handful of international destinations are already emerging as trending spots for next year. So, whether you’re dreaming of a beach break or a unique city escape, here’s a look at what’s on the map for South Africans in 2023.

Brussels, Belgium

A new generation of South African travellers has begun exploring Belgium, thanks to the reintroduction of direct flights between the two countries after more than 20 years. “Air Belgium’s twice-weekly flights between Brussels, Johannesburg and Cape Town, which we introduced in September 2022, have already led to a spike in visitors from South Africa,” says Emmanuel Menu, CCO of Air Belgium.

Why visit: There’s a lot to love about Brussels, the capital of Europe. Compared to its close cousins Amsterdam and Paris, it’s smaller and less well-known. Still, it can hold its own with art, delicious local cuisine, unique museums, fantastic summer festivals, vibrant nightlife and beautiful architecture. And did we mention chocolate, beer, and waffles on tap?

March through May is a great time to travel, says Menu. “During these months, the weather is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 8 to 17 degrees Celsius. It’s also a great time for sightseeing, as there are fewer crowds, and you’re more likely to get good hotel deals,” he says. “What’s more is that Belgium is at the heart of Europe. Travellers can catch a quick train or a flight and seamlessly visit France, the Netherlands, Germany or even Italy or Switzerland.”

Koh Mak, Thailand

As always, South Africans will enjoy travelling to Thailand this year, confirms Bianca Mazur, GM Flight Centre South Africa. The country has a lot to offer, including good value and great choice. “Thailand will shine this year and again underpin its popularity as an affordable option for the budget-conscious South African traveller,” says Bianca.

Bangkok and the well-known islands will always be popular, but demand for destinations conscious of protecting resources and the environment has changed. A recent study by Statista found that 81 percent of travellers worldwide consider sustainable travel important. The Tourism Association of Thailand (TAT) is making encouraging moves to prioritise sustainability – a philosophy that environmentally conscious travellers from South Africa and beyond will appreciate.

Why visit: TAT promotes Koh Mak in Trat province as Thailand’s first low-carbon destination. The island, which was closed to tourists until 1985 and is home to the magnificent Ao Kao and Ao Suan Yai beaches, is largely privately owned by five families who carefully manage its development.

Manchester, United Kingdom

According to Antoinette Turner, General Manager at Flight Centre, London was the most popular destination for South Africans in 2022, but Manchester snuck into second place among the most visited British cities. It’s quickly gaining a reputation as one of the coolest cities in the country.

Turner explains that the popularity of the United Kingdom among South African travellers is related to the close relationship between the two countries, which means there are often family and friends living there that South Africans want to visit. “But the UK also has a lot to offer culturally, historically and scenically, and those travelling for business or family also want to explore other cities in the UK if possible,” she says.

Why visit: Move over London’s British Museum. We’re looking forward to the return of the Manchester Museum in 2023, which has undergone a £15 million makeover. The museum will open with an exhibition on the Golden Mummies of Egypt, which will be bucket-list stuff for many South African visitors.

Le Morne, Mauritius

The Indian Ocean island experienced a bumper December. No wonder, then, that it’s on the hit list of South African travellers who missed the boat during the high season. “Mauritius is perennially popular with South Africans, offering options for every budget, and world-class accommodation to suit all tastes and a variety of activities, from water sports and golf to hiking and mountain biking,” says Sean Kritzinger, Executive Chairman of the GILTEDGE Group.

Why visit: Mauritius was named the leading destination for adventure tourism in the Indian Ocean at the 2022 World Travel Awards (WTA) and attracts more than just beach lovers to its shores. Hiking is becoming increasingly popular with travellers looking to add a touch of adrenaline to their holiday. Basing oneself at Le Morne on the far southwestern tip of Mauritius and you’ll be right on the doorstep of Le Morne Brabant, the island’s most preserved and wildest mountain – and there are plenty of resorts nearby with idyllic beaches for a perfectly balanced holiday.

New York, USA

About 60% of business travellers expand their work trips to business travel, says Lance Nkwe, Corporate Marketing Manager, Corporate Traveller. “Bleisure travel means workers can enjoy their holidays at reduced expenses. At the same time, this kind of travelling has been proven to be quite motivating for staff,” he says. While London is popular with South African travellers, Nkwe says New York is also a strong market for bleisure travel and he predicts it will shine in 2023.

Why visit: Exploring further than usual is often part of an extended business trip. Sightseeing, discovering culture and shopping are popular reasons to stay beyond one’s original plan. Adding a few days to a trip to New York City is definitely worthwhile when seeking out all this cosmopolitan city has to offer in its 24/7 lifestyle. From Broadway musicals and plays to evening visits of iconic landmarks such as Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, or 9/11 memorial there’s no shortage of activities available once business hours are done. Plus, NYC restaurants cater until late making it possible to sample all kinds of gastronomic delights too!

How Passion and Purpose Spark Mobile Innovation

Dr. TM Roh, Samsung President & Head of MX Business – Every year, mobile becomes less of an extension of our technology habits and more so the very core of those habits, as essential devices that people rely on to do more.

We create and consume content that connects, inspires, or simply entertains us. We stay immersed in the world of an epic game, even on the go. We keep up with colleagues and deadlines when we’re away from our desks. We manage every part of our lives in one convenient place — from health and wellness habits to appointments, purchases, travel and more.

Our days revolve around these experiences, so people are choosing the devices they can depend on, from brands they can trust. This gets right to the heart of our purpose within the Samsung MX (Mobile eXperience) group — to design mobile technology that enriches people’s lives and contributes to a better world.

Setting New Performance Standards

This purpose drives us to push the limits of what’s possible for the performance and quality of mobile experiences. Nowhere is that more relevant than in the Galaxy products that carry the Ultra name.

Since S20 series in 2020, we merged the beloved Note experience with Ultra, pioneering a smartphone with the power, performance, and creative capabilities of two leading Galaxy innovations in one.

Then, with launch of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, we brought Ultra to a new device and redefined what it meant to watch, connect, work and play. For Samsung, Ultra means big. Ultra means bold. Ultra means the best of the best in performance. To take everyday experiences further, we redefine the essentials.

The upcoming Galaxy is all about camera, performance and sustainability. That’s why our pro-grade camera system is getting smarter. Our performance is getting more powerful. And our connectivity is getting more seamless.

Our upcoming Galaxy redefines performance and quality, which is how we build on your trust.

Innovation That Lasts

Performance isn’t just about more power. It is also about innovation that lasts. It means building durable devices engineered to last longer and incorporating more sustainable materials that consider each phase of the product’s lifecycle. It also means supporting peak performance with years of security and OS updates and simplifying the longevity of a device — with Samsung Care+ and Self-Repair.

In 2022, Samsung Electronics announced a new environmental strategy to help tackle climate change. The MX Business will continue our efforts in helping to realise these goals by taking tangible climate action across our business and product lifecycles.

Premium Experience Without Compromise

On February 1 at Unpacked, we will introduce new devices that set the new premium standard for innovation. They deliver powerful performance without compromise. They’re built to be more sustainable — and to be trusted by all.

At a time when the stakes are higher than ever, we’ve raised the bar by pushing performance further. At Unpacked, we’re delivering our most powerful mobile devices you’ll continue to love for years to come, so you can be confident in your choice. I can’t wait to share what’s next with you. See you all at Unpacked!

FlySafair introduces WhatsApp Mobile payments for Extras

Source:FlySafair

30 January 2023 – Low-cost carrier, FlySafair is the first airline in the world to launch a service where customers can make payments for booking extras via WhatsApp. This innovation, called Chat 2 Pay, continues the airline’s commitment to seamless travel experiences.

This particular feature means that customers can now add checked luggage to an existing booking and make payment for that service, all within the context of a simple WhatsApp chat. Launch functionality is currently limited to adding checked luggage, but the airline is in the process of adding other options like snack vouchers to the platform.

“We’re always trying to improve our customer experience and we’re thrilled to be able to offer this innovative new way of managing bookings. WhatsApp is such a fundamental part of our daily lives and it makes perfect sense to bring these capabilities into that environment”, explained Kirby Gordon FlySafair Chief Marketing Officer.

This is the next in a series of recent improvements FlrySafair has made to their WhatsApp service. Just last year the airline worked with technology partner Clickatell to introduce features which allow passengers to manage their bookings via WhatsApp. Now passengers can do everything from looking up a flight status to checking-in, confirming checked luggage inclusions, receiving boarding passes, and live-chatting with airline customer service agents right from WhatsApp.

“Our goal is to offer all the functionality currently available on our website via WhatsApp to make end-to-end booking and reservation management as easy as possible,” said Gordon. “Introducing this payment capability is the next step in achieving this goal, reducing the stress of traveling by offering a convenient, safe, and secure way to pay make payments right in the chat environment.”

“Our work with FlySafair is further evidence that Chat Commerce is a vital part of a seamless customer journey. Our partnership has already seen South Africa’s favourite chat channel, WhatsApp, become an integral part of FlySafair’s omni-channel offering and we are excited to see what new chat services our teams can deliver to an airline who clearly prides itself on its innovation and commitment to engaging with its customers on the channels they prefer,” said Werner Lindemann, Clickatell’s Senior Vice President Enterprise Sales: Growth Markets.

Passengers can access this WhatsApp service by sending Hi to the FlySafair business account on +27 87 357 0030. Following the simple prompts passengers will select the first option labelled My Booking to identify the relevant reservation. If the user is unsure whether they already have a bag they can select the second option Luggage/Bags and Restrictions to check or if they are sure they can skip straight to option three to Buy a Bag. Payment is ultimately made via WhatsApp by following the prompts on the secure payment link using any Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card.

bp Energy Outlook 2023

This year’s bp Energy Outlook explores the key trends and uncertainties surrounding the energy transition out to 2050. The three main scenarios considered in the Outlook – Net Zero, Accelerated, and New Momentum – have been updated to take account of two major developments over the past year: the Russia-Ukraine war and the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act in the US.

The Outlook’s three main scenarios are designed to explore the range of possible outcomes for the global energy system over the next 30 years. Understanding this range of uncertainty helps bp to shape a strategy which is resilient to the different speeds and ways in which the energy system may transition.

bp’s chief economist, Spencer Dale, said: “Global energy polices and discussions in recent years have been focused on the importance of decarbonising the energy system and the transition to net zero.  The events of the past year have served as a reminder to us all that the transition also needs to take account of the security and affordability of energy. Any successful and enduring energy transition needs to address all three elements of the so-called energy trilemma: secure, affordable and lower carbon.”

“The events of the past year have highlighted the complexity and interconnectedness of the global energy system. The increased focus on energy security as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war has the potential to accelerate the energy transition as countries seek to increase access to domestically produced energy, much of which is likely to come from renewables and other non-fossil fuels. But the events also show how relatively small disruptions to energy supplies can lead to severe economic and social costs, highlighting the importance that the transition away from hydrocarbons is orderly, such that the demand for hydrocarbons falls in line with available supplies.”

Three scenarios:Accelerated and Net Zero explore how different elements of the energy system might change in pathways that achieve substantial reductions in carbon emissions by 2050  by around 75% in Accelerated and over 95% in Net Zero. Both scenarios assume a significant tightening in climate policies globally. Net Zero also includes a shift in societal behaviour and preferences to further support gains in energy efficiency and the adoption of low-carbon energy.New Momentum is designed to reflect the current broad trajectory of the world’s energy system. In doing so, it places weight on the marked increase in government ambitions and pledges for decarbonisation that have been seen in recent years. In this scenario, global carbon emissions peak in the 2020s and by around 2050 are around 30% below 2019 levels.

Key themes from the Outlook:

  • The carbon budget is running out. Despite the marked increase in government ambitions, CO2 emissions have increased in every year since the Paris COP in 2015 (bar 2020). The longer the delay in taking decisive action to reduce GHG emissions on a sustained basis, the greater are the likely resulting economic and social costs.
  • Government support for the energy transition has increased further in a number of countries, including the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act in the US. But the scale of the decarbonisation challenge suggests greater support is required, including policies to facilitate quicker permitting and approval of low-carbon energy and infrastructure.
  • The disruption to global energy supplies and associated energy shortages caused by the Russia-Ukraine war increase the importance attached to addressing all three elements of the energy trilemma: secure, affordable, and lower carbon.
  • The war has long lasting effects on the global energy system. The heightened focus on energy security increases demand for domestically produced renewables and other non-fossil fuels helping to accelerate the energy transition.
  • The structure of energy demand changes in all three scenarios, with the importance of fossil fuels declining, replaced by a growing share for renewable energy and by increasing electrification. The transition to a low-carbon world requires a range of other energy sources and technologies, including low-carbon hydrogen, modern bioenergy, and carbon capture use and storage.
  • Oil demand declines over the outlook, driven by falling use in road transport as the efficiency of the vehicle fleet improves and the electrification of road vehicles accelerates.  Even so, oil continues to play a major role in the global energy system for the next 15-20 years across all three scenarios.
  • The prospects for natural gas depend on the speed of the energy transition, with increasing demand in emerging economies as they grow and industrialise offset by the transition to lower-carbon energy sources led by the developed world.
  • The recent energy shortages and higher prices highlight the importance of the transition away from hydrocarbons being orderly, such that the demand for hydrocarbons falls in line with available supplies. Natural declines in existing production sources means there needs to be continuing upstream investment in oil and natural gas over the next 30 years, including in Net Zero.
  • The global power system decarbonises, led by the increasing dominance of wind and solar power.  Wind and solar account for all or most of the growth in power generation, aided by continuing cost competitiveness and an increasing ability to integrate high concentrations of these variable power sources into power systems.  The growth in wind and solar requires a significant acceleration in the financing and building of new capacity.
  • The use of modern biofuels – modern solid biomass, biofuels and biomethane – grows rapidly, helping to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors and processes.
  • Low-carbon hydrogen plays a critical role in decarbonising the energy system, especially in hard-to-abate processes and activities in industry and transport. Low-carbon hydrogen is dominated by green and blue hydrogen, with green hydrogen growing in importance over time. Hydrogen trade is a mix of regional pipelines transporting pure hydrogen and global seaborne trade in hydrogen derivatives.
  • Carbon capture use and storage plays a central role in enabling rapid decarbonisation trajectories: capturing industrial process emissions, acting as a source of carbon dioxide removal, and abating emissions from the use of fossil fuels.
  • A range of techniques for carbon dioxide removal – including bioenergy combined with carbon capture and storage, natural climate solutions, and direct air carbon capture with storage – are needed for the world to achieve a deep and rapid decarbonisation.

New software updates to Galaxy Buds2 Pro

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 27 January 2023 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced, on 12 January 2023, new software updates to Galaxy Buds2 Pro and Galaxy Watch series, elevating content capturing for Galaxy users everywhere. Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have offer elite photography and videography experiences, letting users create, capture, and share their epic moments. Now, when paired with the latest wearable devices, the already-powerful Galaxy camera is further strengthened with 360 Audio Recording, the unique feature that brings immersive sound to video content, along with an upgrade to the Camera Controller that makes zooming in and out remotely easier. These software updates reflect Samsung’s continuous commitment to providing the most up-to-date experiences to existing devices.

360 Audio Recording: Capture the World as You Hear it

The new 360 Audio Recording feature[1] empowers users to capture sound on video, precisely as they hear it. Pairing Galaxy Buds2 Pro with a Galaxy smartphone, everyone can film like a pro and capture high-quality, realistic audio for video without the need for bulky professional equipment, anytime, anywhere. The feature picks up 360-degree sound using a microphone in each earbud, placing viewers at the centre of a roaring festival crowd or beside a bubbling brook in the middle of a forest. Users can pop in connected headphones and playback the video on their device or social media channel to hear lifelike and immersive sounds that emulate an in-person experience.

When pairing the Buds2 Pro with a Galaxy Z Flip4 or Fold4, users are drawn into the moment, benefitting from high-quality stereo audio as well as high-quality video.

Camera Controller: Frame the Perfect Shot Right from Your Wrist

Photography and videography with Galaxy smartphones are about maintaining creative control in any situation. One example is the Galaxy Watch’s Camera Controller app, which enables users to control their phone camera right from their wrist. A new update – soon to be available on the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch4 series – adds zoom capabilities to Camera Controller[3], further expanding the Galaxy camera experience with Galaxy smartphone and Galaxy Watch connectivity. Now users can remotely control their phone’s camera zoom with a simple pinch of the watch face or a turn of the rotating bezel – perfect for taking group shots or solo selfies from a distance and eliminating the need to run back and forth to the camera to frame the perfect picture.

SA Tourism returned home in triumph from Fitur 2023

27 January 2023, Spain (Madrid): South Africa’s appearance at the Fitur Madrid (International Tourism Trade Fair) 2023 held at the Ifema trade fair centre of Madrid (Spain), which ended this week, was a triumph for Team South Africa.

Fitur is the global meeting point for tourism professionals and the leading trade fair for inbound and outbound markets in Latin America.

It is known as one of the year’s first appointments, bringing together diverse tourism professionals worldwide to showcase their wares during an important booking cycle in the Europe Tourism value chain.

The 2023 fair was attended by over 600 exhibitors and official representatives from 70 countries (including tourism ministers from 21 countries).

“FITUR 2023 was a resounding success and a platform where we once again showcased South Africa’s unique experiences and readiness to welcome visitors from across the globe.” said the South African Tourism (SAT) Regional General Manager (Europe) Ian Utermohlen.

“We conducted 25 high level meetings and discussions at the South African Tourism exhibition stand, with the intention of fostering meaningful relationships in the market. This saw us amongst others engage with Real Madrid and the Committee of Tourism Film Festivals on potential collaborative efforts in the Spanish & South African Markets”.

South Africa’s strong contingency of exhibitors included Joburg Tourism, Amazing Africa, Ates Africa Safaris & Tourism, Catalina Tours SA, Aquila Collection and AM Lodge | Luxury Safari Lodge.

Among the South Africa exhibitors at the #FITUR2023 were three SMMEs, Kwanda Voluntourism, Timeline Travel & Evo Trak Quad Safaris who valued the opportunity to participate on this global tourism platform. “A part of driving transformation in the industry and opening up market access for the emerging operators, it is imperative that we elevate and expose SMMEs to our Europe Tourism value chain like FITUR,” he insisted.

On Thursday 19th January South African Tourism hosted a press conference that garnered great response and enthusiasm from 30  Spanish media and trade stakeholders that  were in attendance. “Our objective was to bring the Spanish media into our confidence and ignite excitement with the processes and thinking behind our in-market demand work, the importance and value of the Europe South Markets, while showcasing our exceptional performance” Utermohlen emphasised.

South African Tourism’s stand in Madrid welcomed up to 495 quality visitors who engaged with exhibitors & delegates while enjoying biltong and some quality South African wines, The Golden Kaan Shiraz and Delheim Chenin Blanc.

One of the observations that came from many of the exhibitors on the stand was that they (exhibitors) are seeing shorter lead times for business – meaning, all the business that is coming their way is for either this year or next year.”

“This indicates how eager people are to host their conferences and bring incentive trips to South Africa shortly. This is a shift from the pre-COVID-19 environment as lead times were much longer,” he re-emphasised.

HUAWEI Mate50 Pro flagship launches in SA

The HUAWEI Consumer Business Group has announced the release of the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro, the newest model in its prestigious Mate series, as well as the fourth anniversary of the HUAWEI AppGallery in South Africa. With its array of cutting-edge features, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro is setting new standards and broadening the range of what customers may expect from a smartphone.

The Ultra Aperture XMAGE Camera, one of the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro’s industry-first innovations, has the first-ever 10-scale adjustable physical aperture and the most adaptable photography features ever seen on a HUAWEI Mate smartphone. The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro is protected against drops by a 10x increase in drop resistance thanks to its ultra-reliable “Kunlun Glass” armor. The smartphone’s symmetrical Space Ring Design signifies a significant advancement in smartphone aesthetics.

Future-facing features that elevate performance and user experience

The HUAWEI “Kunlun Glass” consists of 10 quadrillion-level nanocrystals, the result of composite ion strengthening, which make it more resilient and drop resistant as verified by the first-ever five-star glass drop resistance certification from Switzerland’s SGS. This makes the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro models the first smartphone to ever achieve this certification. The smartphone supports IP68-rated water resistance of up to 6 metres underwater, allowing it to easily handle wet and dusty environments.

The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro display provides a window into a crystal-clear world. Combined with the P3 wide colour gamut, fine-tuned colours are calibrated to ensure absolute authenticity. The smartphone comes with a 6.74-inch HUAWEI FullView Display, a screen resolution of 2616 x 1212 pixels and a high refresh rate of 120Hz and 1440Hz PWM dimming, to reduce flickering and relieve eye fatigue.

In addition, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro packs a 4700 mAh battery within its slim body. It offers 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge wired and 50W HUAWEI SuperCharge wireless fast-charging solutions to strike an optimal balance between battery life, fast charging and portability. Moreover, with an innovative low-battery Emergency Mode that activates when the battery level falls to 1%, SuperEnergy Boosting enables the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro to extend standby time by three hours or 12 minutes of call time.

The SuperStorage feature removes duplicate files in an imperceptible way and compresses rarely used apps. This preserves up to 20GB of space (on a phone with 256GB of ROM), leaving more room for the abundance of photos and videos that today’s users capture.

The ground-breaking Ultra Aperture XMAGE camera

HUAWEI launched its very own mobile imaging brand “XMAGE” in 2022, with the goal of offering consumers a new shooting paradigm that fuses science with culture and aesthetics with technology, for an improved shooting experience. The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro features a cutting-edge Ultra Aperture XMAGE camera with a 10-size adjustable physical aperture, which incorporates key advances to the optical system, mechanical structure, imaging technology and image processing. The smart aperture adjusts to match the aperture size with the scene and shooting scenario identified in Auto mode. Switching to Professional mode allows you to manually adjust the depth of field and degree of blur.

What’s more, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro has advanced hardware and algorithms that are deeply embedded to enhance static image shooting. The Ultra Aperture Camera comes equipped with an F1.4 large aperture, working with the XD Fusion Pro image engine and high light intake to set the image brightness, light and shadow details, as well as cold and warm comparisons to perfection.

Portrait mode applies natural background blurring to make the subject stand out from their surroundings. Night mode captures photos with highly distinct bright and dark regions, even in dimly lit environments. The periscope telephoto camera supports a zoom range of up to 200x, bringing scenes from the great beyond right in front of your eyes.

The wide-angle macro camera magnifies details from tiny worlds, presenting millimetre-level strands and dew droplets with outstanding clarity. The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro also supports macro video shooting and macro picture-in-picture (PiP) to accurately convey scenes in motion.

The first of its kind: A well-crafted classic design

In addition to the signature Mate Series design language of iconic symmetry and Space Ring Design, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro makes use of the elegant Clous de Paris step-patterned embossing design for the first time ever, showcasing a new kind of ordered beauty that is crafted down to the last detail.

The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro has two different types of rear covers namely glass and vegan leather. The glass cover is available in two colours, Silver and Black, which gives the phone a distinct and elegant finish. The vegan leather version comes in Orange and is inspired by the radiant orange rays of the sun.

Being the first smartphone from HUAWEI to run on EMUI 13, which streamlines daily interactions with an effortless one-touch navigation, EMUI 13 introduces the Super Device SuperHub feature, which is an innovative file transfer capability. Users can simply press and hold on any text, pictures, videos and files, drag to the SuperHub’s floating window to store the files temporarily. Users can then switch to another application, select the files within the SuperHub for a seamless cut and paste. With the batch transfer capability, users can in addition use SuperHub for multi-files transfer between their smartphone, tablet and PC.

The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro comes pre-installed with HUAWEI AppGallery – the third-largest app marketplace in the world. Users can download a wide selection of global and Local apps. The HUAWEI AppGallery is  available in more than 170 countries and has over 580 million active monthly users.
